PDA Handheld Options

EDIBLE HANDHELDS offer distributors several options to assist businesses in reducing costs while increasing efficiencies. The following packages all operate on hand-held PDA’s that use Microsoft’s Pocket PC operation system:
Edible PDA
EDIBLE PDA is an optional stand-alone package that enables sales personnel to quickly and easily take orders using handheld PDA’s while at a customer's location.
At the customer’s site, EDIBLE
PDA will optionally, automatically display the inventory items routinely purchased by the customer. This information, coupled with the customer’s specific item description and price per unit-of-measure, allows the salesperson to quickly enter the quantity of each item requested. Alternatively, if preferred, the required item can be quickly located within the PDA, or else it can be scanned into the PDA by scanning the bar code with the built-in bar-code scanner.
At a convenient time, EDIBLE
PDA orders can be quickly and transferred back to Edible Software via the Internet or modem, or by physically returning to the office. Thereafter, authorized personnel can review the received orders, make any needed adjustments and then accept them as regular orders within Edible Software.
Since customer satisfaction increases by having face-to-face contact, and since no order-entry data re-keying is necessary, EDIBLE PDA has proven to increase sales and maximize profitability. EDIBLE PDA can literally put more money in the palm of your hand!

Edible Wi-Fi
EDIBLE WI-FI is an optional Wireless Order Entry package that, when used together with the necessary wireless communication hardware and software, allows sales to be entered directly into the system from your warehouse or sales floor. Instead of your employees taking hand-written orders from your customers on the floor, EDIBLE WI-FI is a one-step system that makes all manual data entry obsolete and eliminates illegible or missing hand-written orders, as well as the need to re-key the orders into your computer. Since the PDA running EDIBLE WI-FI is constantly on-line with Edible Software, it updates all orders on a real-time basis.
Virtually all of Edible Software’s sales and order-entry features apply to EDIBLE WI-FI. These include:
- Rapid customer search and location capability
- The ability to enter cash sales and have the data immediately update for the cashier
- Optional default of standard items previously ordered by customer
- Item pricing by customer, by item, by unit-of-measure
Edible PI (Physical Inventory)
EDIBLE PI is an optional module that allows Physical Inventory to be taken using PDA’s. The counts can be taken by scanning bar codes on the inventory items that were either pre-printed by the originating vendor, or else that were generated by Edible Software at the time of product receipt.
When performing a count, warehouse personnel may either scan the relevant bar code into the PDA or manually enter the item. If no bar code is present, locating the item within the PDA is a quick and simple matter that can be accomplished by easily locating either the item number, description, item category or item type. Once located, the PDA defaults to a quantity of one, but this can be quickly changed to reflect the correct quantity on hand.
After completing the count, the data is transferred from EDIBLE PI to Edible Software, where the data is automatically displayed and can be validated prior to updating the counted information into the system.
Edible PAL (Pick and Load)
EDIBLE PICK and LOAD is an optional module that verifies that the correct products ordered and the correct quantities of each product are pulled from inventory and/or loaded for delivery to each customer. The program also stores and tracks the picked or delivered item ‘lot’ number which, since it identifies the originating vendor, ensures compliance with the FDA’s Bio-Terrorism Act.
As careful as warehouse personnel may be, picking and delivery mistakes can happen, but EDIBLE PICK and LOAD can help reduce these to an absolute minimum. This is accomplished as follows:
- EDIBLE PICK and LOAD is loaded onto a PDA, which is wirelessly connected to Edible Software.
- The warehouse personnel views a sales order on the PDA and either picks the products required or else loads the picked products into a truck for delivery to the customer.
- As each item is picked or loaded, it is scanned into the PDA, which verifies it against the order. A warning is then sounded if an incorrect item is scanned or the quantity is incorrect.
- As each item is scanned, the original lot number is stored within the sales entry, thereby ensuring that the product can be tracked to and from each vendor and customer. This complies with the FDA’s Bio-Terrorism Act.
Note that the customer’s delivery route can also be verified if needed. This will then ensure that the correct orders will be loaded onto the correct truck for delivery.
Edible DSD (Direct Store Delivery)
EDIBLE DSD is an optional module that will turn your trucks into mobile warehouses. This module makes it possible for inventory to be warehoused and tracked on each truck, and also allows orders to be placed, filled and finalized by the driver.
Prior to leaving your warehouse, inventory is counted and loaded onto each truck. Edible Software then deducts the items loaded from the relevant warehouse inventory and adds it to the relevant truck’s inventory. At the customer location, drivers/salespersons determine what products in what quantities are required by the customer and pulls these from the inventory on his/her truck. An invoice can then be immediately printed from the truck and the products handed over to the customer.
Back at the warehouse, the EDIBLE DSD sales orders can be quickly and easily transferred to Edible Software and all of the necessary accounting routines are updated. At the same time, a physical count on the truck should be performed and this can then be validated against the physical inventory on-hand per Edible Software.
