Reality Check:
Three (3) of the world's worst excuses for using Off-the-Shelf Accounting Software
There are many poor excuses for using generic, off-the-shelf accounting software
packages like QuickBooks and Peachtree, but the following three are some of our favorites:
1.
It's Cheaper - This is probably the best-of-the-worst excuses for using generic,
off-the-shelf accounting software packages rather than
industry-specific software like Edible. The cost of this familiar software, often purchased right off-the-shelf at big-box stores like Best
Buy and Office Depot, is actually sky-high when you consider that it can't calculate multi-units-of-measure or the constant and multiple
fluctuating costs that every wholesale food distributor deals with every day, nor does it comply with the requirements of the Bio-Terrorism Act or
the Country-of-Origin law. Our question: How do you define "cheap"?
2.
Everybody else uses it - The belief that your competitors are using the same generic
accounting software you use may be holding you back - way back. The fact that Edible
clients tell us that their profits go up by 1 to 3 percent within months of installing industry-specific accounting software means they enjoy an
almost immediate advantage over their competitors. Are you really sure "everybody else is doin' it?"
3.
It's easier to use - When was the last time you found it easy to review and
print the country-of-origin (COOL) of every item sold with generic accounting software like QuickBooks or Peachtree? Maybe you've forgotten what
happens this month? If so, we'll remind you: The new USDA Farm Bill has kicked in and every wholesale food distributor in the country is now
required to comply with a level of inventory accountability the likes of which our industry has never known. Translation: Off-the-shelf accounting
software will make this tedious process anything but easy.
WHO ARE THE
SMACKDOWN STARS
for SEPTEMBER? We
wish we knew these guys personally so we could introduce you -- but we don't. We just know them as two talented athletes from
Japan, who also look like they could be pretty good ballet dancers. Stay tuned.

Beth Jackson, on the job in a New York client's office. "Every day we prove that
learning to use Edible is easy," she says.
Beth Jackson Loves Edible, Flowers, Waverunners and Animal Rescue
(not necessarily in that order)
Beth Jackson is a woman of many talents; not the least is her gift for showing others how to use Edible Software with confidence and ease.
Wherever Edible installs a new software accounting system anywhere in the country, you'll likely find Beth nearby helping our new clients make a
smooth transition.
Beth was once an Edible client, herself. Back in 2004, as comptroller for a specialty food company, it was Beth's job to research an array of food
accounting software programs. "Edible came up number one," she recalls.
"I
liked the costing and online ordering features," says Beth, who has a finance degree from Boston University. "I also liked the
PDA module for use in the warehouse. And of course," she says, "I liked Edible's excellent customer service. As a comptroller, I knew as well
as anyone that you're out of luck when there's no one there to answer a software question. At the time, I never dreamed I would one day be part of
the Edible customer support team, myself."
Beth, whose home base is Atlanta, is an avid gardener who grows Black-eyed Susans, lilies and hydrangeas. On the waterfront, she and husband Ken,
own a big boat and also love racing their Waverunners in Georgia's Lake Lanier. Her most fervent interest, however, is summed up in two words -
animal rescue. "My life's passion," she says, "is the effort to provide refuge for unwanted animals."
