Bailout for victims of bad accounting software?

"Bad Accounting Software Costs U.S. Wholesale Food Distributors a Fortune"

by Henri Morris, CPA

CEO, Edible Software

Bailout, bailout, bailout. Everybody wants a bailout. A bailout has even crossed my mind.

Here's what I mean:

How about a bailout for the victims of bad accounting software? I'm talking about the kind of generic accounting software you buy off-the-shelf at big box office and electronic stores -- the kind of software that can't or won't ever be able to supply accurate, timely or verifiable information business owner to assure he's profitable.

Why a bailout? Read more here.

Magnolia Fruit & Produce Owners Recall Tragedy -- Now Know Joy, Prosperity

Liz Moser and Kenny Faour had big dreams and no guarantees when they opened the doors of Houston's Magnolia Fruit and Produce company less than two years ago.

The sister and brother duo took a calculated business risk. Twenty-two months later they are selling to some of Houston's top restaurants, ringing up millions of dollars in sales. Their secret of success is simple: Hard work and wise decisions. One of those decisions was investing in Edible Software.

Liz and Kenny's amazing family story involves a horrific fire in the late 80s that doomed their father's produce company. A lingering affection for the family business finally led them to establish their own company -- a company they named in honor of their dad's lost business.

Enjoy Liz and Kenny's  family photos dating back to 1910, when great-granddad, Anthony Faour, first immigrated to the U.S. and began selling produce in downtown Houston. Liz and Kenny are pictured above in their  company warehouse. Read more about Magnolia Fruit & Produce.

SMACKDOWN on 'Casual' Traceability

Peanut Butter Recall -- An Accounting Lesson For Us All?

Is the peanut butter mess a reminder to our industry about the importance of traceability?

You bet it is. Already the salmonella outbreak has turned into 800 recalls wirh more expected.

Just like the spinach and tomato recalls before it, the same questions remain:

  •  Is the state-of-the-art traceability in place to protect consumers?
  • Has the food supply chain learned its lessons from past recalls?
